Dwight Yoakam: Read the Music

This singer/songwriter shows a profound respect for his roots, both genealogically and musically, in his songs. Drawing from hardcore country, rockabilly, and roots rock, his work shows the influences of such artists as Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley, but remains uniquely, unmistakeably his own. A two-time Grammy winner, he's known for his philosophical lyrics, clear tenor and keen intelligence. He's also a respected actor, catching the attention of critics and fans alike with his strong portrayals in such films as Sling Blade and The Newton Boys. He turned to screenwriting and directing with South of Heaven, West of Hell, in which he also stars.
